Bamboo Velour...Time to Dye!

Hahaha anyways my bamboo velour had finished having a pre-waash then I soaked it in some soda ash and mixed up some dye....

orange on the bottom and turquoise on the top

I realised once I mixed the dyes that I was going to end up with some brown, so I left the velour in the jar for about 2 hours and here is the result

Not too bad for a first attempt and of course it looks so much better in real life.

Morning Tea today

Here is our morning tea today. Green Tea, cup of milk, Choc-chip cookie dough Pop-Tart and apple pieces for Jacob.

The Cat in the Hat Nappy

I have been reading Dr Seuss books to Montana since she was a baby and Jacob has joined in aswell...what child doesn't LOVE Dr seuss (I remember reading the books when I was a little kid) So I thought why not make Jacob a Cat in the Hat nappy, after all he loves the Cat and especially loves it when I say "I'm the cat in the hat, there's no doubt about that"

I looked around everywhere for The Cat in the Hat fabric and the only pieces I could find where an astronomical amount and I wasn't paying it to go on a nappy (This nappy was planned before I knew about the Robert Kaufman collection that was being released, so no doubt my "original, OOAK" will end up being one of many.

With some nappy making supplies and embroidery thread and a whole lot of patience I ended up with this minky hand embroidered appliqued nappy.....

These photos were taken a few months ago and it is too big for Jacob, It fits him better now but it is still a bit big. It will be perfect size for summer when he goes pants free and I, I mean Jacob can show it off

Now that the Robert Kaufman collection is everywhere, I might have to get some and make Montana and myself a dress'and maybe some pants for Jacob.

Good Morning

Here is my early morning breakfast before the children wake up.

Tea with a cookies and creme Pop Tart mmmmmm. I buy my pop-tarts from here http://www.confectionerywarehouse.com.au/catalog/index.php

Dying with Kool-Aid

I have some procoin dye coming in the mail from http://www.fairyfabrics.com.au/ but thought I would give Kool-aid a go before I get the good stuff.

I tried to dye one piece of silk using the LWI method with yellow and red in a jar but the red just overpowered and I have a piece of red silk. Heres a piece that I just sprinked the Kool-aid on the material and smoothed it out with a tablespoon.

You can't really see it but the middle is yellow. I won't be using Kool-aid again to dye. The only good thing about it was it smelt so good.

Twirly Rainbow Patchwork Dress

Montana wanted another dress, one that twirled. We had a problem though, what fabric to use. Montana couldn't decide. She definately wanted the red hearts on pink by Cosmo Fabrics, which ended up being the straps and the bottom hem but had numerous other pieces that just didn't go together.

So I had a lightbulb moment. Why not use a whole lot of fabrics, with each tier having the same colourway. Out come the pencils...

Then I ran into another problem....I really don't have orange. Instead of having 7 tiers I ended up with 6, purple, red, yellow, pink, green and blue with an orange zipper. The front

The back

The twirl

Each tier has the hem sewn down with the same colour thread and we have a wide variety of fabrics mermaids, very hungry caterpillar, wow wow wubbzy, flowers, smurfs, thomas the tank, saggy baggy elephant, tinkerbell and so on.....

For the Fabric Addicts

I thought I would post photos of pieces from my stash for the fabric addicts out there.

Alexander Henry-inked

Super Mario Bros Nappies

Did I mention I love making nappies. Heres a set I made Jacob from the trimsie trainer pattern in pixel form. They are great for him when he is playing outside.

The fronts,

Theres my little man. This one snaps at the front.

There are two missing. A 1-up mushroom and the star. will have to add them later.

Tillbrook Maxi Dress

Montana asked me to make her a long dress and I had just the right fabric. So here it is the Tillbrook Maxi Dress

This is my first item with shirring.

Montana loves it and wears it all the time. I think there will be a few more maxi dresses to come :P

Welcome .

Welcome to my Blog, In a Second. (I find myself muttering these three words quite alot these days)

I'm Tess and I love to create. My inspiration comes from my beautiful children, Montana (4) and Jacob (1) and on the odd occasion our two kitties, Sherbet and Cookie aka little kitty.

I will be posting about things we get up to from sewing to cooking to crafting to sewing, pretty much anything and everything.

Enjoy your stay, feel free to leave a comment and stop by again :)
